Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson disclosed he barely escaped a potentially fatal accident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two marshals ran across the track directly in front of him

The dangerous situation occurred on the third circuit when marshals were spotted on the racing surface as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to swap his compromised front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Moments later, the Formula 1 racer Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"

"I came out on a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, truthfully, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Obviously there's been a failure in communication somewhere but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We fail to grasp how on a live track safety personnel can be authorized to just run across the track in such a way. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some kind of clarification, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the FIA

"During the third lap, track officials were notified and made ready to access the circuit and recover the debris once every vehicle had gone by"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had pitted, the directives to deploy marshals were canceled and a double yellow flag was raised in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what happened subsequent to that time"
